Alexander
DeGrasse III I completed Teen challenge in 1990, and I
have been saved for over 20 years. About 6 years ago something took
place in my life, and I began going back to my old way. God was not
pleased. 2 Peter 2:21 says, "For it would have been better for them
never to have known the way of righteousness than after knowing it
to turn back from the holy commandment delivered to them".
Alex and his wife have been married for about five years,
but these New Jersey natives had no idea they would be on this
journey together with Teen Challenge in Baltimore when they met and
married. Alex decided to re-enter the Teen Challenge program to help
him deal with some life issues that needed tuning-up. After a
six-month refresher course at Rehrersburg, Alex served on the staff
for 18 months, until the Baltimore Center opened. He came here in
September '09 for the opening, and his family moved in some months
later.
Wife Angel and son Isaiah, age three, are glad to be
settled in together at last. They are all trusting God to complete
the good work he has begun in Alex as he provides strong and stable
leadership to incoming men. He has assumed his role with joy and
integrity, setting a good example for the younger men.
Since
returning to Teen Challenge, God has shown me that the calling God
has placed on my life is still in the working and that He is not
finished with me yet. Even in growing weary we still have to stand
on the word of God. Romans 11:29 says, "for God's gifts and his call
are irrevocable."
God has called me into mission and
outreach, I also will be going to school to become a drug counselor
to help out in my church outreach. I would be dead if by now without
God, He can change your life!
Juan Delgado, a
Life Rescued from the Streets
Juan
Delgado is the new TC Intern responsible for leading worship and
assisting the Coordinator in discipling the students at the
Center. The versatile singer, songwriter and rapper has walked
the hard road to get to this place in his life. Juan is a native of
Puerto Rico who grew up in a Christian home in Bridgeport, CT.
As a teenager he rebelled against his mother’s religion and
feelings of loneliness and rejection the “Christian” label brought
him. He began smoking pot in high school and by the middle of his
junior year was out of control.
His mother sent him to his
father in Puerto Rico, but that didn’t help in his search for a
meaningful life, despite several attempts to find direction. Juan
fell into heroin addiction and soon lost thirteen years in a
drug-induced wasteland.
Juan recommitted his life to Jesus
in March of ‘09, and graduated from “The Mountain” in April
‘10. One of Juan’s favorite scriptures is Job 42:5 “I have
heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you.”
